Cascade de La coulisse, Waterfall in Trois-Rivières, Guadeloupe, France.
La Coulisse cascade is a natural waterfall in Trois-Rivières that flows through a series of rock formations and deepening pools. The water originates from the Petit Carbet river and creates multiple distinct water features along its path that vary with seasonal water levels.
The site developed its significance during the colonial period when it powered local water mills used in sugar production. An old mill with its wheel mechanism still remains partially visible near the cascade, marking traces of that industrial past.
The cascade holds meaning for local people as a gathering place where families and friends come to swim and spend time together in the pools. This natural site remains woven into the daily recreational rhythm of the surrounding communities.
Reaching the waterfall requires a hike of about 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) starting from the Anse Duquery parking area, with roughly half the route going through the river itself. Wear shoes with good grip and bring water, as the terrain is wet and rocky throughout the journey.
During high water seasons, the cascade forms natural slides where visitors can experience sliding down the rocks into the pools below. The water volume fluctuates dramatically with rainfall, continuously reshaping which pools are deep enough for swimming.
