Néron, Limestone mountain summit in Isère, France.
The Néron rises to 1298 meters in elevation within the Chartreuse mountain range, displaying steep limestone cliffs and Mediterranean vegetation on its slopes.
Archaeological excavations led by Hippolyte Müller revealed ancient remains at the lookout point, including a cistern and artifacts from Neolithic through Roman periods.
The mountain contains the Balme de l'Hermitage cave, which transformed from a Neolithic settlement into a medieval castle occupied by noble families and religious orders.
Several marked hiking trails originate from Saint-Egrève, leading visitors through different elevations and providing access points for mountain exploration and photography.
The 2003 fire significantly altered the mountain's upper region, creating changes in the local ecosystem and affecting the distribution of Mediterranean plant species.
