Pont de Châteauneuf-sur-Loire

The Pont de Châteauneuf-sur-Loire is a suspension bridge stretching approximately 276 meters across the Loire River, connecting Châteauneuf-sur-Loire and Sigloy. The structure has a roadway about 8.5 meters wide with separate pedestrian walkways and carries traffic on the departmental road.

Construction started in 1838 following a royal decree and was completed in 1841 to improve regional connections across the river. The suspension design represented a significant engineering advancement for infrastructure in the Loire area during that era.

The bridge connects two communities that depended on each other for trade and daily life along the river. Today it serves as a symbol of the connection between the two sides of the Loire Valley.

The bridge is accessible to both vehicles and pedestrians and crosses the river on a relatively level path. Be aware that it is an active traffic route, so care is needed when crossing on foot.
