Pont de Seyssel, Cable-stayed bridge in Seyssel, France
Pont de Seyssel is a cable-stayed bridge that crosses the Rhône River with a span of about 220 meters and stands 55 meters above water level. It connects the two French municipalities of Seyssel located on opposite banks of the river.
The original structure was built in 1840 as a suspension bridge after multiple wooden constructions had previously collapsed. The current cable-stayed version was completed in 1987 and replaced the earlier structure with modern engineering methods.
The bridge represents a link between two distinct administrative regions, facilitating exchanges between communities on both sides of the Rhône River.
The bridge is open to regular vehicle traffic and allows visitors to cross between the eastern and western riverbanks. Pedestrians and cyclists can also use the structure to traverse the Rhône.
Engineers Jean-Vincent Berlottier and Alain Spielmann designed this modern cable-stayed bridge as part of regional infrastructure improvements in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
