Vieux pont suspendu de Seyssel

The Vieux pont suspendu de Seyssel extends 80 meters across the Rhone River, featuring a central span of 40 meters and a central pier with a Virgin statue.

Following the destruction of previous wooden bridges by floods, this suspension bridge was constructed between 1838 and 1840 to connect both sides of Seyssel.

The central pier, dating from medieval times, originally housed the Black Virgin statue, which now resides in the Seyssel Ain Church.

The bridge remains open throughout the year with free access for visitors, and convenient parking facilities are available near the structure.

The medieval central pier combines with modern suspension engineering, creating a bridge that serves both vehicular and pedestrian traffic across the Rhone.
