Louvre central post office, Post office building in 1st arrondissement, France.
The Louvre central post office is a six-story building on rue du Louvre that combines historic architecture with contemporary features. Beyond the postal service, it now houses a luxury hotel, restaurants, shops, and a police station within its walls.
The building was constructed between 1880 and 1886 on the site of the former Hôtel d'Armenonville and opened in 1888. The original design came from architect Julien Guadet, and it underwent major renovation by Dominique Perrault.
The building takes its name from its proximity to the Louvre Museum and reflects the central role postal services once played in French public life. Today it houses multiple businesses and serves as a meeting point where locals and visitors interact across different activities.
The building is easily accessible and well integrated into the surroundings of the 1st arrondissement. Since it houses multiple functions, it helps to ask at the entrance about where to go, as different sections serve different purposes.
A major renovation completed in 2022 transformed the building by adding several unexpected functions and uses beyond postal services. This conversion makes it much more than a traditional post office, blending hospitality, commerce, and civic functions into one space.
