Sanctuaire de Mars Mullo

The Sanctuaire de Mars Mullo is an ancient religious site from Celtic and Roman times, located on a hill above the Sarthe River. The grounds contain foundations and remains of several structures and altars that show how religious spaces were organized in this area.

The sanctuary was used from Celtic times through the Roman period and served as a major place of worship for several centuries. It eventually became buried beneath vegetation and soil until it was found again in modern times.

The place served as a gathering point for communal worship and spiritual observance among the local population, as revealed through excavated artifacts. The physical layout and objects found here show how people expressed their beliefs and conducted rituals in daily religious life.

The site is open to visitors on foot, and comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the ground is uneven. Guided tours are available for groups and provide better understanding of what you are seeing among the ruins.

The site vanished from human knowledge for centuries until a storm in the late 20th century uprooted a tree and revealed the hidden structures beneath. This chance discovery eventually led to systematic excavations that uncovered important information about the ancient world.
