Vimoutiers Tiger tank, German tank in Vimoutiers, France
The Vimoutiers Tiger tank is a German Tiger I combat vehicle displayed on a concrete platform near road D979. The machine measures roughly 6 meters in length and nearly 4 meters across, with its original turret and gun still intact.
This tank was abandoned by German forces in August 1944 during the Battle of Normandy when fuel supplies ran short. After coming under Allied control, it remained in the region where it now stands as a historical monument.
The tank serves as a place where visitors reflect on the region's wartime past and how the community engages with its history. Local residents have incorporated this relic into the town's identity as a space for remembrance.
The monument is accessible year-round in an easy-to-reach location with parking available right next to it. The setting allows visitors to view the vehicle from multiple angles without obstruction.
The tank bears vertical cuts on both sides of the gun mounting and another cut across the turret roof. These marks tell the story of how the vehicle was treated after its capture and display.
