Zoo de La Flèche, Wildlife park in La Flèche, France.
Zoo de La Flèche is a wildlife park in La Flèche, France, displaying animals from all continents across an expansive site. The enclosures are organized by continent and habitat, with pathways winding through woods, past ponds, and across open areas.
Jacques Bouillault founded the park in 1946 as the first privately run zoo in France. The site grew steadily over the decades and developed into a center for education and animal welfare.
The park takes its name from the nearby town and sends the message that wildlife observation is possible close to home. School groups from across the region visit regularly to learn about species conservation and animal care.
The site opens daily in the late morning and closes in the early evening, with pathways partly accessible for wheelchairs. Sturdy footwear and weatherproof clothing are advisable as many sections are outdoors.
Special overnight rooms allow guests to look directly into selected enclosures through large windows while lying in bed. Polar bears and big cats often move close to the glass, offering an unusual view of their behavior after dark.
