Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Lambesc

The Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption is a church defined by its pyramidal facade and octagonal dome that stands prominently in Lambesc. Inside, ten chapels are arranged around the main space, each holding altars and artwork that decorate the interior.

This church was built between 1740 and 1741 according to designs by architect Jean Vallon. It replaced an earlier religious structure from the 13th century that once stood on the same location.

The interior chapels display paintings and altarpieces created by artists working in Provence during the 18th century, reflecting the religious devotion of that period. These works show how local artists contributed to the spiritual and artistic life of the community.

The church is located at the center of Lambesc on Place des Poilus and can be reached on foot from most parts of the town. As it is an active place of worship, visitors should dress modestly and move quietly to respect those who may be praying.

A notable feature is the three-keyboard organ by Joseph Isnard, which was originally commissioned for Saint-Sauveur Cathedral in Aix-en-Provence. This historic instrument now contributes to the acoustic qualities visitors experience when exploring the interior.
