St. Peter, Charenton-le-Pont, Catholic church in Charenton-le-Pont, France

St. Peter is a Latin-cross church built between 1857 and 1859 by architect Claude Naissant. Its stone facade has a central arched portal with wooden double doors, above which are carved "République française" and "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité"; three arched windows with statues and a round window sit above, and a square tower with a slate spire stands on the right. The nave is flanked by six columns representing the twelve Apostles, and two side aisles added in 1916 are linked by an ambulatory behind the chevet.

St. Peter's was built between 1857 and 1859 by architect Claude Naissant, replacing a 13th-century church enlarged in the 15th century and given a 16th-century bell tower. In 1882, after disputes between the town and the clergy, the mayor had "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" and "Propriété communale" carved on the facade. Two side aisles were added in 1916, linked by an ambulatory around the rear.

The facade bears the motto "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" and, in smaller letters, "Propriété communale", carved in 1882 after disputes between the town council and the Catholic clergy. The bell tower holds three bells: Nicolle-Catherine, kept from the old village church, plus Jeanne d'Arc and Thérèse de l'Enfant-Jésus.

The entrance opens onto the place de l'Église, with the building bounded by rue de la République, rue de Paris and rue Alfred-Savouré. The nave is flanked by six columns and two side aisles added in 1916, so allow time to walk the ambulatory behind the chevet. The Cavaillé-Coll organ sits above the entrance.
