Charenton-le-Pont, Administrative commune in Val-de-Marne, France
Charenton-le-Pont is a commune in Val-de-Marne on the right bank of the Seine at an elevation of 36 meters, connecting the eastern neighborhoods of Paris with the surrounding department. The town has two metro stations on Line 8 and six RATP bus routes that provide regular links to the capital and neighboring communes.
The bridge first appeared in the seventh century as a strategic crossing over the Seine and was rebuilt eighteen times due to numerous military conflicts throughout the centuries. These repeated destructions and reconstructions reflect the importance of the passage for defending and controlling eastern access to Paris.
The theater along the right bank hosts productions across several art forms in two halls, where dance, music and other performing arts take place regularly before local audiences. The venue accommodates smaller and larger productions that often bring together artists from the region and occasionally national groups as well.
Public transport connects the commune directly with central Paris and surrounding towns through regular metro and bus services that run frequently during the day. Pedestrians will find paths along the Seine that are suitable for walks between the banks and allow easy access to adjacent areas.
The public swimming pool has a specialized diving pit for tower divers and reopened after extensive work in June 2022. The renovation also covered the renewal of changing areas and technical facilities, which now meet current standards for public pools.
