Église Saint-Martin de Palaiseau

Église Saint-Martin de Palaiseau is a Romanesque church built with thick stone walls and rounded arches. The building received a 26-meter spire during a 19th-century renovation that reshaped its appearance.

An abbey was founded on this site by Queen Bathilde during the 7th century, though no trace of that original structure survives. The current building developed over centuries, with major changes in the 19th century reshaping its form.

The church occupies the central square of the town and serves as a gathering place for regular worship. It remains a focus point for the local community's religious life.

The church sits at Place de l'Église in the town center and is easy to reach on foot. Since services happen regularly, visiting works best when you check ahead to avoid times of active worship.

Above the Romanesque portal on the western facade sits a 14th-century stone carving of the Virgin and Child. This sculpture was officially protected as a historical monument in 1902.
