Château de Vilgénis, Empire style castle in Massy, France

The Château de Vilgénis stands on a large estate with two lakes, featuring Empire architectural elements and extensive grounds in the Essonne department.

Initially built as a Gallo-Roman villa rustica, the site transformed into a fortified farm in 1216 before becoming a castle with four towers in 1502.

The castle walls contain artistic works from different periods, including paintings by renowned artists Watteau and Desportes from the early 18th century.

The castle's documentation and protection orders can be consulted at the Médiathèque du patrimoine et de la photographie in Charenton-le-Pont.

Air France utilized the castle as a training center from 1950 to 2010, marking a significant shift from its original residential purpose.
