Église des Saints-Archanges, Romanian Orthodox church in Latin Quarter, Paris, France.
Église des Saints-Archanges is a church in the 5th arrondissement of Paris dating from the early 14th century, featuring a visible timber framework structure inside. The building contains multiple bays and later became home to the Romanian Orthodox community in this neighborhood.
The building was constructed in the late 14th century as a chapel for the Beauvais College and was originally dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist. Over time its use and management changed, eventually becoming home to the Romanian Orthodox Church in Paris.
The church takes its name from the three archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, who are venerated as protectors in the Romanian Orthodox tradition. Visitors can see the 1926 mosaic panel above the entrance depicting these saints, which reflects the religious life here.
The building is easily accessible in the Latin Quarter and can be viewed from the outside, with the entrance clearly visible. If you want to visit the interior, note that services take place at various times of day when the church is open.
The Dumitru-Stăniloae Center housed within this building offers theological training including online classes via YouTube for people worldwide. This makes the church an unusual place for digital religious learning in the heart of Paris.
