The garden was founded in 1975 by Yves Rocher as a collection site for medicinal and cosmetic plants needed for natural product development. This beginning shaped its lasting focus on research and knowledge sharing.

The garden's name honours Yves Rocher, the La Gacilly-born entrepreneur whose cosmetics firm founded it on its own industrial site at La Croix des Archers. Its national artemisia collection, recognised by the Conservatoire Français des Collections Végétales Spécialisées, is the feature specialists come for. The beds group plants by use, from dye plants to desert species.

The garden is located at La Croix des Archers and opens daily during warm months with free admission and educational installations about plant conservation.
