La Moutète

La Moutete is a multipurpose indoor hall in Orthez covering roughly 1,100 square meters (11,840 square feet) that serves both sports events and weekly markets. The space works for different functions and brings together activities that serve the local community throughout the year.

From 1931 to 1991 this facility was home to the Elan Bearnais Orthez basketball team and hosted their games and training. The team later moved to the Palais des Sports in Pau, ending decades of basketball history in this space.

A weekly Tuesday morning market brings together local sellers offering fresh produce and regional goods to the neighborhood. The gathering shows what people value in daily shopping and how the community stays connected through this routine.

The hall offers permanent seating, heating, wireless internet, and electrical outlets for various events. Additional chairs can be set up based on what activity is scheduled and how many people are expected.

When basketball games were held, temporary seating had to be set up and taken down around each match while the space still operated as a market on other days. This dual use made the venue work overtime for the town and showed how creatively a single space could serve different needs.
