Château de Bocsozel, Medieval castle ruins in Mottier, France.
Château de Bocsozel are castle ruins on a hilltop near Mottier with two surviving towers standing above the valley. The round tower was built from river pebbles and features a vaulted ground level.
The castle first appeared in written records from January 25, 1000, in the Cathedral of Grenoble documents. The surviving round tower dates to the 13th or 14th century.
The ruins show how fortifications were built in alpine regions to defend the surrounding valleys. The construction style using river stones reflects how local materials shaped medieval building practices here.
Visitors should wear sturdy shoes as the paths to the ruins are steep and require some effort to climb. The trail begins at Mottier church and follows a forest path through woodland to the hilltop.
The round tower maintains much of its original medieval form even though weather and time have worn the stones smooth. A modern protective roof was added to prevent further decay without altering the original walls.
