Grand Hôtel de Font-Romeu, Historic mountain hotel in Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via, France.
The Grand Hotel de Font-Romeu is a former mountain hotel in the French Pyrenees featuring around 200 rooms with ceramic decorations adorning its facade. A row of cast iron street lamps lines the terrace and defines the complex's exterior character.
Construction began in 1910 under architect Albert Lafargue, but financial difficulties led Henri Martin to take over the project in 1911. The building received official protection status for its facades and roofs in 1988.
The building reflects early 20th century mountain architecture with regional influences visible in its decorative details and construction style. The ceramic decorations and cast iron elements show the craftsmanship of the era.
The building has been converted into private apartments since the 1970s and is not generally open to visitors at other times. Public access is available during the annual Heritage Days in September.
The original complex offered far more than lodging, with game rooms, a casino, and various sports facilities for mountain leisure. Today these luxury features have disappeared, but traces of that past still remain visible in the building's design.
