The mountain name derives from Catalan language terminology, with alternative designations including Pic des Mauroux used throughout different historical periods.
The surrounding Serrat des Loups area maintains a protected environment where golden eagles and gray wolves find natural habitats in the mountains.
Visitors can access the summit through the PR71 trail, a 9.9-kilometer circular path that starts from the parking area at La Calme ski resort.
The mountain hosted the 2023 World Cup of paragliding, establishing itself as a premier location for aerial sports in the French Pyrenees.
