The Notre-Dame de Font-Romeu hermitage features ornate baroque architecture with three altarpieces and decorated walls within its 17th-century chapel structure.
Built at the location of an ancient miraculous fountain, the hermitage received its monument historique designation in 1928, protecting its historical features.
The chapel houses a 12th-century Romanesque gilded wooden sculpture of the Virgin Mary, created by Catalan artist Joseph Sunyer between 1704 and 1707.
Located one kilometer north of Font-Romeu town center, the hermitage remains accessible through departmental road 618 toward Bolquère.
Every September 8th, a traditional procession carries the Virgin statue to Odeillo church, where it stays until Trinity Sunday after Pentecost.
