Maison natale de Colette, Literary birthplace in Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye, France.

The Maison natale de Colette is a two-story residence built with traditional Burgundian stonework and architectural details. Extensive gardens and protective walls surround the property on all sides.

The house was built in the early 19th century and became the birthplace of writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette in 1873. The family left the property in 1891 when financial troubles forced them to relocate.

The rooms are furnished based on details Colette described in her own writings, showing how she lived as a child in this place. Visitors can see the everyday objects and spaces that shaped her early years.

Access to the house is only by guided tour, so it is worth checking available times before your visit. Knowing that this is a historic residence with relatively small and intimate rooms helps set expectations.

The property received protected monument status in 2011 and earned the Maisons des Illustres designation, which honors its place in French literary history. This recognition marks it as a memorial site for important French figures.
