Monument à Arthur Rimbaud, Monument in Marseille, France

The monument à Arthur Rimbaud is a sculpture in Parc du Prado in Marseille, dedicated to the poet who died in the city in 1891. Created by sculptor Jean Amado, it takes the form of a boat and stands alongside a granite slab engraved with lines from Rimbaud's poem Le Bateau ivre.

The monument was commissioned in 1989 by the city of Marseille and the French Ministry of Culture to honor Rimbaud's final days in the city. The poet had spent his last weeks at the hospital La Conception before dying there in November 1891.

The monument stands in Parc du Prado, near the southern beaches of Marseille, and is easy to reach on foot from the waterfront. The park is open all year round, and the sculpture can be visited as part of a walk along the seafront.

Jean Amado, who created the sculpture, began his career as a ceramist and later developed his own material for large-scale public works. The monument is one of the few places in Marseille where you can see both a literary inscription and one of his sculptures side by side.
