Pont de la Libération, Reinforced concrete bridge in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, France.
Pont de la Libération is a single-arch concrete bridge crossing the Lot River in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. The structure spans the water with a graceful curve and provides space for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Engineer Eugène Freyssinet designed this bridge in 1912, with construction starting in 1914. World War I disrupted the project, but the bridge was completed in 1919.
The bridge incorporates brick elements that connect to the medieval construction traditions of Villeneuve-sur-Lot's architectural heritage.
The bridge is accessible on foot and by vehicle, offering good views of the river from multiple vantage points. The arch is best appreciated from the riverbanks below, where its curve is clearly visible.
When completed in 1919, its 96.25-meter span represented a world record for concrete arch engineering. This achievement demonstrated revolutionary advances in reinforced concrete construction.
