Regional council of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Regional Council of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is located in central Besançon and serves as the administrative hub for the entire region. It oversees education, transportation, and economic matters across the territory.

This institution was created in 2016 when the former regional councils of Burgundy and Franche-Comté merged into one. The combination was part of a major French administrative reorganization.

The council supports regional initiatives through the construction of the Grande Bibliothèque in Besançon, scheduled for completion in 2028.
