Château de Beauvais

Château de Beauvais is a neoclassical castle in Limoges built around a rectangular layout with rooms arranged along a central axis. The main structure connects the grand salon to the dining room, with protected facades and roofs recognized as historical monuments.

Built between 1765 and 1768 by architect Joseph Brousseau, this castle replaced an earlier 15th-century fortification on the same site. Only the original fireplace and sections of the moat from the older structure were preserved and incorporated into the new design.

The residence once housed the abbots of Saint-Martial, reflecting the religious authority they held in the city. Visitors can still explore the rooms where these spiritual leaders lived and received visitors.

The exterior facades can be viewed from the surrounding grounds, though interior access may require prior arrangement. Check opening hours and contact information before visiting to confirm availability for tours.

The northern and southern facades display different architectural treatments, with the south side featuring a more pronounced entrance that frames the grand salon. This intentional asymmetry gives the building a more sophisticated appearance.
