Château de Laxion

Château de Laxion is a castle with four residential buildings surrounded by round towers and features a square tower with a drawbridge entrance. The complex displays both medieval defensive elements and Renaissance decorative features across its walls and facades.

The castle developed over several centuries, with its structure expanded and changed from the 14th through the 17th century. A key moment came when Antoine Chapt de Rastignac defended it in the 16th century as the region experienced religious conflicts.

The castle shows a blend of medieval and Renaissance elements that visitors can see throughout the rooms and courtyards. This combination of older defensive features with newer decorative details tells the story of different periods when people lived and built here.

The castle is currently undergoing restoration after fires in 1997 and 2008, so some areas may not be accessible to visitors. It helps to check ahead about which parts can be visited and how the ongoing work affects your visit.

The north side displays Renaissance motifs with fine decorative details, while the south side shows window designs from earlier periods. This visual contrast between the facades makes clear how the building grew layer by layer over the decades.
