Prieuré de Locmaria

Prieuré de Locmaria is a medieval religious complex in the Locmaria district featuring a church with a three-part nave and a transept with small side chapels. A Gothic portal gives entry to the main worship space, which includes a central tower rising above the structure.

The priory originated in the 11th century as a religious foundation that developed over time. Official recognition came later, with the church receiving historical monument status in 1855 and the cloister buildings registered a century afterward.

The priory displays a blend of Breton Romanesque and Gothic styles visible throughout its structure and architectural details. Visitors can observe how these two building traditions come together in the stonework and layout.

The priory is situated in the Locmaria neighborhood and accessible by public transport serving the area. The buildings contain rooms of varying sizes suitable for group visits or events.

The site holds an unexpected history related to ceramics manufacturing, which began in the early 18th century under the direction of a craftsman from Provence. This faience workshop eventually became one of France's most important pottery operations.
