Monument to Alfred de Musset, Marble statue in Parc Monceau, France

The monument features Alfred de Musset seated while a muse figure leans over his right shoulder, representing the intersection of poetry and inspiration.

Created by sculptor Antonin Mercié in 1906, the statue was first placed near the Comédie-Française before being relocated to Parc Monceau in 1981.

The monument illustrates a scene from The Night of May, a dialogue poem between a suffering poet and Poetry personified as a muse.

The statue stands along the Allée de la Comtesse-de-Ségur within Parc Monceau, accessible through multiple gated entrances in the 8th arrondissement.

The statue shows visible damage as the right hand and part of the right arm of the muse figure are missing from the original composition.
