Château du Buron, château français situé à Vigneux-de-Bretagne
Chateau du Buron is a medieval fortress in Vigneux-de-Bretagne built between 1345 and 1385. The structure displays typical noble house architecture with stone walls and older towers characteristic of the period.
Construction began in 1345 and was completed in 1385 for the Dukes of Rohan. After centuries of family ownership, the castle passed to Madame de Sévigné in the 17th century and moved to the Hersart de La Villemarqué family around 1700, where it has remained.
The castle was linked to the Rohan family for centuries, one of the region's most powerful noble families. Its connection to Madame de Sévigné in the 17th century gave it literary significance among Breton aristocratic residences.
The castle is private property and cannot be visited inside, though you can view it from outside. A golf course built in 1969 surrounds the property on three sides, shaping the landscape around it.
Madame de Sévigné's ownership made it a site of literary importance, as the famous letter writer composed her renowned correspondence there. Her regular stays between 1646 and 1689 connected the castle to one of the 17th century's most significant literary testimonies.
