The original chapel, built in 645, underwent several transformations, including a major reconstruction ordered by Louis VII in the 12th century and restoration following the French Revolution.
The church maintains regular Catholic services as part of the Saint-Médard parish in Soissonnais, representing a central religious institution in the local community.
Visitors can reach the church by crossing the Passerelle des Anglais footbridge from Soissons city center, with religious services held every Sunday and during religious festivals.
During the French Revolution, the building temporarily served as a saltpeter workshop before its reconstruction in 1851 through local parishioner contributions.
