The Link, Skyscraper in La Défense, France
The Link is a skyscraper in the La Défense business district at Puteaux, designed by Philippe Chiambaretta as two office towers, Arche and Seine, 244 and 178 metres tall, joined by 35 platforms called links. It offers about 130,000 square metres of office space, with duplex floors of roughly 6,000 square metres and high ceilings. Its blue-tinted glass facades are held in a grid of pale mullions with vertical fins; the upper section is stepped and narrower, and a red crane stood on the roof during construction.
In July 2017 Total chose The Link to house its head office, grouping 5,500 to 6,000 staff then split between the Coupole and Michelet towers. On 11 June 2020 Groupama announced the launch of the project with the demolition of the existing building, followed in 2021 by foundation work for the two towers. The construction cost was put at one billion euros in October 2021, and TotalEnergies' teams are due to be fully installed during 2026.
The name comes from the 35 platforms, called "links", that connect the two towers Arche and Seine. The building is designed for TotalEnergies, which will group 5,500 to 6,000 employees from the Coupole and Michelet towers here. Duplex floors of about 6,000 m² and high ceilings let staff move on foot between levels and use the lifts less.
The completed building will mainly house office workers and is reachable via the existing transport connections of La Défense. Visitors should keep in mind this will be a private business building and access may be limited.
Architect Philippe Chiambaretta designed the building with a special focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. The facade uses innovative materials that help the building partly power itself.
