Puteaux

Puteaux is a commune in the western part of the Paris metropolitan area, sitting along the north bank of the Seine between Neuilly-sur-Seine and Nanterre. The eastern edge of the town shares space with the La Défense business district, while the remaining residential areas include older buildings and quiet streets.

The area became a landed estate in 1148 when Abbot Suger founded a property he named Putiauz, a name drawn from the Latin puteoli for little wells. Over the following centuries, the settlement grew from a farming village into a residential town on the edge of Paris.

The commune hosted tennis tournaments during the 1900 Summer Olympics, marking its early involvement in international sporting events.

La Défense station links the town to central Paris through Metro Line 1 and several regional train services. Visitors can cross the Seine on foot using nearby bridges to reach neighboring towns on the southern bank.
