Hauts-de-Seine, Department of France in Île-de-France region
Hauts-de-Seine is a department that lies west of Paris and covers 36 municipalities. The area combines residential neighborhoods with business districts along the Seine and sits entirely within the Île-de-France region.
The department formed in 1968 from portions of the former Seine department during a broad reorganization of administrative structures around Paris. This reform divided the old Seine territory into several smaller units.
La Defense business district within Hauts-de-Seine contains numerous contemporary art installations, architectural monuments, and exhibition spaces throughout its esplanade.
Several metro lines and RER trains run through the department and link its municipalities directly to central Paris. Many locations are also accessible by tramway and local bus lines that serve the area well.
More than 500 companies have established their headquarters here and form the highest corporate density in France. This concentration makes the department a major economic location within the Paris region.
