Courbevoie, Suburban commune in Hauts-de-Seine, France.
Courbevoie is a town in the Hauts-de-Seine département on the western edge of Paris, sitting at roughly 82 feet (25 m) above sea level near the river. The town covers just over 1.6 square miles (4.2 km²) and borders directly onto the La Défense business district.
The town takes its name from the Latin Curva Via, which refers to a Roman road that curved as it climbed the hillside. Over the centuries a settlement grew along this ancient route and eventually became an independent municipality.
The municipality maintains active international connections through partnerships with cities like Enfield in the United Kingdom and Freudenstadt in Germany.
The Transilien line from Paris-Saint-Lazare stops at two stations in the town, while Esplanade de La Défense metro station offers another access point to public transport. These connections make it easy to reach from central Paris and the surrounding suburbs.
Part of the southern area of the town falls within the modern high-rise district of La Défense, where many corporate headquarters and office towers stand. This proximity makes the town a mixed space where residential neighborhoods meet one of Europe's largest business centers.
