Château de Longchamp, Historic château in Bois de Boulogne, France
Château de Longchamp is a neoclassical structure built in white stone with a classical pediment, set within an expansive park in western Paris. The estate covers roughly three hectares and now houses the GoodPlanet Foundation, which presents exhibitions on environmental topics across two floors.
The château was constructed in 1849 by architect Gabriel Davioud at Baron Haussmann's request as a summer residence for the imperial heir. The building remained private property until its transformation into a public venue in the late 1900s.
From 1949 to 2000, this château served as an international training center where thousands of scholars from French-speaking nations studied. This history shaped the site into a hub for cross-cultural exchange and international cooperation.
The site is open Wednesday through Sunday with free admission to exhibitions, and features broad pathways throughout the grounds. Access is straightforward from the Bois de Boulogne, and visitors should wear sturdy shoes when exploring the green spaces.
A solar-powered food truck and organic market operate on the grounds, where visitors can purchase locally grown products. These features show the site's commitment to sustainable practices in daily operations.
