The mountain was first documented during detailed surveying work in the 18th century when mapmakers studied the Languedoc-Roussillon region. These early topographic efforts helped systematically record the geography of the Pyrenees.
Local shepherds from surrounding valleys maintain the tradition of summer transhumance, leading their flocks to graze around the mountain slopes.
Reaching the summit requires a multi-hour hike from Nohèdes village on clearly marked trails. The route passes near the Balmette mountain shelter, which serves as a useful landmark along the way.
From the peak area, one can see Étang de l'Ours and Gorg d'Évol, two distinct water bodies situated in neighboring valleys. These vistas reveal the variety of landscapes surrounding the mountain.
