Collet de Travignon, Mountain summit in Vaucluse, France

Collet de Travignon is a mountain summit in the Monts de Vaucluse range, located south of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, rising to approximately 960 meters. The peak offers expansive views across the limestone landscape with its distinctive rocky formations and terrain.

The name first appears in written records from 1542, derived from the Romance word 'travi' meaning crossroads. Settlement of this remote mountain location developed around natural water sources and grazing lands.

Near the summit sits the abandoned village of Travignon, a place where people once lived in harmony with the mountain landscape until the early 1900s. Walking among its remains gives you a sense of how communities adapted to this remote terrain.

The summit is accessible via hiking trails from Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, with routes leading through rocky mountain terrain and taking roughly one hour to complete. Sturdy footwear and plenty of water are essential, especially during warmer months.

Two old dry stone cisterns still stand near the summit, handcrafted water storage structures from centuries past. These remain testify to how mountain dwellers secured fresh water in this arid limestone region.
