Butte de Menis, Summit in Vercors Massif, France.
Butte de Menis is a summit in the Vercors Massif near Grenoble, standing at approximately 750 meters above sea level. The peak consists of limestone and rises above the surrounding Trièves region.
The peak formed during the Alpine orogeny millions of years ago when tectonic plates collided and shaped the landscape. This limestone formation is part of the geological history of the Alps.
Local shepherds traditionally used the paths around Butte de Menis to guide their flocks between seasonal grazing areas in the mountains.
The peak is accessible via marked hiking trails from the nearby village of Saint-Martin-de-Clelles in the Isère department. The trails are well-marked and pass through varying elevations.
The summit offers a complete view of the Trièves region, with the Dévoluy mountains visible to the south and the Vercors cliffs to the north.
