Haut du Rouge Gazon is a mountain summit in the Vosges range standing at about 1100 meters altitude at the upper end of the Verriere valley. The ski area has five lifts accessing ten slopes of differing difficulty levels, with one black run, two red runs, and seven easier trails for all abilities.
The location began in 1932 when Joseph Luttenbacher purchased a farm that gradually transformed into a modern ski resort. What started as a simple rural property evolved into a developed winter sports destination with infrastructure for skiers and mountain hikers.
The mountain restaurant serves local dishes from the Vosges region that visitors can taste while enjoying views of the surroundings. This tradition of sharing regional food shapes how people experience their time on the slopes and trails.
Visitors should prepare for cold conditions and changeable weather typical of the Vosges mountains. The best time to visit is usually between December and March, though snow and conditions vary depending on the season.
The area offers about 20 kilometers of cross-country skiing trails at the same elevation as the summit itself, making it a rare destination for this type of skiing. These extended flat trails allow visitors to explore the mountain landscape in a completely different way than downhill skiing offers.
