Église Saint-Vincent de Lacanau, Church in Lacanau, France
The église Saint-Vincent de Lacanau is a church in the town of Lacanau, in the Médoc region of France. It stands on Rue Caupos and features a modest steeple, stone walls, a wooden ceiling in the nave, and colorful stained glass windows.
The current building was constructed in 1767, replacing an older church that had been repeatedly flooded by the nearby lake. In 2017, the town marked the 250th anniversary of its construction and carried out restoration work to preserve its original appearance.
The church sits along the route to Santiago de Compostela, which gives it a special place for pilgrims passing through Lacanau today. Inside, a 16th-century Pietà and a 17th-century statue of Saint James are both listed as historical monuments, drawing visitors interested in religious art.
The church is easy to reach on foot from the center of Lacanau. Look for Rue Caupos and you will find it without difficulty, as it sits right along the street.
Inside the church there is also a sculpture depicting the entombment of Jesus, known as a mise au tombeau, which draws the attention of visitors interested in religious art. The building also holds wooden statues of Saint Vincent and Saint Valerius, making the interior more varied than its modest size might suggest.
