Goule ès Fées, Sea cave entrance in Dinard, France.

Goule ès Fées is a sea cave that extends around 49 meters into the coastline, revealing natural rock formations. These structures have been shaped over centuries by tidal movements and erosion.

The Lumière brothers documented the cave in 1877 while experimenting with early color photography techniques. These photographs are part of the origins of color photography.

The name comes from the Latin word 'gula', meaning throat. Local stories tell of mermaids and fairies said to inhabit this sea cave.

Visitors should check tide schedules before planning a visit, as water levels determine safe access to the cave. The best time to explore is at low tide, when more of the cave opening becomes accessible.

The cave formed during the Neoproterozoic period, making it a geological structure from one of Earth's earliest eras. Such ancient formations are rare along this coastline and valuable for understanding Earth's history.
