Île Harbour, Historical fort on an island near Dinard, France.
Île Harbour is a rocky island off Dinard that holds a military fort with an irregular outline, crenellations, and a pentagonal bastion on its eastern side. The fortification stands roughly 1 kilometer northeast of Saint-Enogat beach and becomes surrounded by a submerged sandbank at low tide.
Military engineers Vauban and Garangeau directed its construction in 1689 to protect the entrance to Saint-Malo harbor. The fortification was strategically vital for defending the Breton coast against naval threats of that era.
Local legends speak of Saint Aaron welcoming Maclou to the island in the 5th century before he became bishop of Aleth. These early religious connections remain part of the area's local identity and heritage today.
You can best view the island from Saint-Enogat beach or from the cliffs around Dinard. At low tide the entire fortification becomes clearly visible, whereas at high tide water partially surrounds it.
French actor Alain Delon owned the fort during the 1960s following his work on filming related to Fort Boyard. He sold the island in 1981 to the current owner who maintains it today.
