OL Le Musée occupies 1,300 m² on two levels of the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, in the north stand, in the same building as the OL Store. Its glass facade carries the white letters "LE MUSÉE" above the entrance doors. Inside, a red wall headed "AU FEMININ" presents the women's team, with a mascot cut-out and a brasserie counter nearby.
The idea dates to 2016, when supporter Stéphane Bénas, who ran a Twitter account on the club's history, was contacted by president Jean-Michel Aulas. Opening was planned for 2017 but pushed to May 2018 so the club could build a collection; the museum cost about 6 million euros and came five years after the rival Stéphane museum, the musée des Verts.
The museum opened five years after the Musée des Verts, the museum of neighbouring rival Saint-Étienne, and gives the women's team a large share of its space, including Ada Hegerberg's first Ballon d'Or, lent since late 2018. A red wall headed "AU FEMININ" presents the 2017 women's football display, and a mascot cut-out stands beside a Brasserie counter.
The museum is located within the stadium complex and is easily accessible by public transport. Plan enough time to explore all exhibition areas, especially if you want to use the interactive displays.
One of the museum's key pieces is a wall of the licences, or their replicas, of every player who played at least one minute for Lyon, numbering 522 at the opening. A replica of the clock that stood atop the north stand of the Stade de Gerland until the late 1990s is also on display, along with a stele honouring Tola Vologe, the Lyon athlete and Resistance member shot by the Germans in May 1944.
