The Hertzian Tower of Chassieu is a gray concrete tower standing 90 meters tall located east of Lyon. A 17-meter diameter dome crowns its summit and houses antennas that transmit radio and mobile phone signals across the region.
The French Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications built this broadcasting facility starting in 1975, following the design principles of the Meudon tower. Its construction marked an important step in modernizing the radio and telecommunications infrastructure across the Lyon region.
The tower functions as a reference point for residents and drivers traveling on the eastern ring road of Lyon metropolitan area.
The tower is visible from the ring road on the eastern side of Lyon and serves multiple operators including Orange, SFR, and Bouygues Telecom. Its location is easily accessible by car and often used as a reference point for navigation in the area.
The construction required 1,200 cubic meters of concrete for its foundation and continuous day and night work to complete the structure.
