Chapelle Saint-Pierre-de-Miramas du Plan-de-la-Tour, Chapel in Le Plan-de-la-Tour, France
The chapelle Saint-Pierre-de-Miramas du Plan-de-la-Tour is a small chapel at the entrance of Le Plan-de-la-Tour, visible from the road coming from Sainte-Maxime. The ruins of an earlier chapel still stand on the same private land, alongside the current building.
This chapel is one of the first places of worship in the area and predates the formation of the current village. Over the centuries, it was altered several times, and the present building gradually replaced the original structure.
The site sits on private land, so going inside is not always possible without prior arrangement. Checking with the local town hall before visiting is the best way to find out when access may be granted.
The ruins of the very first chapel remain visible next to the later building, making it possible to see two phases of the same place of worship side by side. This kind of direct comparison between an original structure and its replacement is rarely found on a single site.
