Chateau de Costeraste

Chateau de Costeraste is a castle in Gourdon made up of three distinct building sections that span multiple periods of construction. A historical gate dating from 1652 stands in the northern wing of the complex.

In the 12th century, the Ébrard family received this fief from Obazine Abbey and established the Hébrard de Saint-Sulpice branch in the region. This early medieval foundation shaped the estate's development for centuries to come.

The castle shows how building styles adapted to suit the needs of different noble families who lived there over the centuries. The different architectural styles of each wing tell the story of how successive generations reshaped the place.

The castle is only open to visitors during Heritage Days, as it remains a private property owned by a family. Plan your visit around these special open days when the owners welcome the public inside.

During the Hundred Years War, Gourdon residents paid a substantial sum in gold to convince the soldiers occupying the castle to leave the area. This unusual ransom reveals how eager the local population was to end the occupation.
