Château de Buillon, Medieval castle in Chenecey-Buillon, France
The castle stands on the right bank of the Loue River, featuring a Renaissance facade with a semi-circular balcony supported by four Doric columns.
Originally built as an abbatial palace for Notre-Dame de Billon Abbey, the castle became private property following the French Revolution in the late 18th century.
In 1846, the castle was purchased by textile merchant Marcel Tissot, whose son James Tissot later added medieval-style elements to the park grounds.
The castle remains a private residence with restricted access, surrounded by extensive gardens containing pathways, a water basin, and an aviary.
James Tissot, the renowned artist, spent his final days in this castle and rests in its private chapel following his death in 1902.
