Construction of the castle started in the 12th century with Hugon de Rocheta as its first recorded occupant in 1153, followed by King Louis XIII ordering its destruction in 1630.
Following multiple transformations, the castle transitioned from a noble residence to an educational center, reflecting the evolution of social needs in the region.
The property operates under a 99-year emphyteutic lease agreement signed in 1965 between the municipality and the OVE foundation for social services.
The castle underwent a strategic siege in 1597 by François de Bonne de Lesdiguières under the orders of King Henry IV of France.
