Cité Doré, Historical residential complex in 13th arrondissement, Paris, France.
Cité Doré is a residential complex in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, located between Place Pinel and Boulevard de la Gare. The settlement consisted of closely built narrow dwellings arranged on rental plots across the site.
The site originated from Château de Bellevue, a rural estate with taverns and a Scottish brewery in the 18th century. By the early 19th century, the land was transformed into a dense working-class housing settlement.
The residents were largely rag pickers who collected and sorted recyclable materials from Paris streets. This occupation shaped daily rhythms and social bonds within the neighborhood in visible ways.
The site is located in the eastern part of the 13th arrondissement and is easily accessible by public transport. A leisurely walk through the streets allows visitors to observe the remaining street layouts and building traces of the original settlement.
The dwellings were built using salvaged and reclaimed materials that residents had collected themselves. This self-construction approach made the settlement a reflection of the residents' resourcefulness and craftsmanship.
